As your company grows, it’s your job to make sure the organization’s IT infrastructure can handle the growth. For an outsourcing and IT company with an increasing number of clients and projects in the pipeline, its data was surpassing its storage capabilities.
The IT director had worked with MicroAge’s John LoJudice on previous projects and knew John could find the right products for his needs — and his budget.
“They needed to expand their storage, and they were also looking for SAN-to-SAN replication,” John explains.
John visited the client’s site with a Dell representative to better understand his needs. A Dell Performance Analysis Collection Kit (DPACK) helped determine just how much storage the client used. DPACK monitors network activity over 24 hours or several days and sends a file to Dell for analysis.
“We aggregate the performance data and make an educated decision on what they need for their environment,” explains Chris Floyd, a channel account manager for Dell. “They don’t under-buy or overbuy. They buy exactly what they need for their performance needs.”
A Dell Compellent SAN was a perfect fit. Plus, a second Dell SAN ensured they could replicate the increasing data to an off-site disaster recovery location.
“The Compellent uses automatically tiered storage, which means that certain drives are used for different purposes,” John explains. “Data that you need every day, like email, is on the higher-power, higher-value drives. Less-accessed data is on slower drives. It’s a very efficient storage product, and it helped our client achieve his goals on a budget.”
