Sometimes even dire challenges have happy endings. For the IT manager of a large insurance company, this point was made as MicroAge recently turned a potential disaster involving VoIP switches into a win-win position.
Opening a co-location data center, the company was scheduled to implement all elements in a specific time frame. Shipping both product and personnel to arrive in tandem to orchestrate the off-site project, the plan was on track until an unexpected glitch threatened to derail it.
Planning to incorporate voice-over internet protocol (VoIP) switches, the company had independently sourced the necessary high-end product. As the deadline approached, the client learned the VoIP switches were severely constrained; in fact, there was no stock available. All the other equipment was delivered and personnel were on site, but without the switches the project could not be completed. A solution had to be found, and found fast.
And that’s exactly what MicroAge’s Chris Pirwitz did. He spoke to the client and immediately sourced comparable technology to complete the job. He did so with Arista Networks, a MicroAge partner, and got the end user on the phone with Arista engineers. “They talked speeds and feeds and qualified whether the VoIP switches would perform at the same level as the others. The Arista 7124SX 24-port 10GbE 480Gbps switches actually outperformed the originals! We then shipped them priority overnight, which is unheard of…high-end VoIP switches like these usually have a lead time of two to five weeks,” says Chris.
This was accomplished only by Arista and MicroAge working around the clock to source and ship the necessary switches in time for the implementation. When the client arrived at the co-location, the VoIP switches were there and the project continued without interruption. The day was indeed saved; MicroAge’s flexibility and reach clearly made the difference between failure and success.
