What are the keys to success in your roles?

Jan:

Consistent processes and attention to detail. Consistency builds trust and rapport. It can be hard to be consistent with details unless there are good processes in place to ensure the details are covered.

Beatrice:

Maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when processing payroll and commissions. Staying organized and consistently meeting payroll deadlines is a must. Communicating clearly with associates, leaders, and cross-functional teams to resolve issues quickly.

Thomas:

Communication and collaboration are key at MicroAge, and the tech we use to do our work helps facilitate that in a way I haven’t experienced at other companies. I wouldn’t be able to do half of what I do without the help and advice of colleagues and other skilled individuals across our internal departments. The other nice thing about our hybrid structure is that I know I can message or call anyone to get their feedback in real time, and if I need to meet with my Sales Rep or Team in person, I can drive into the office and talk things out over a cup of coffee with them. MicroAge emphasizes the value of building relationships, not just with customers but also with other associates, and I feel that any time I need help, I know I have at least three different people I can lean on to help me come up with a game plan.

What skills do you aim to build in your role over time?

Jan:

I would like to expand the processes I’ve grown from the really great processes Stephanie Bolena had in place when I came on board to utilize AI. Good processes take time and maintenance to keep the ‘machine’ working, so I’d like to employ AI to take on some of those maintenance tasks.

Beatrice:

Deepening my expertise in payroll compliance and multistate labor regulations. Strengthening my analytical skills, especially around commission modeling and data validation.

Thomas:

I would like to learn more about what our sales process entails, and thankfully, my Sales Reps have invited me to sit in on client meetings where I’ve seen firsthand that asking the right questions and understanding how to address customers’ pain points come first. I’m also hoping to gain more of an understanding of the technical side of our business over time.

What encouraged you to pursue your role?

Jan:

Many years ago, my parents both had retail businesses in a small town, and I, of course, worked for them after school. I learned so many things, but mainly the importance of detail/accuracy in the books and excellent customer service. A recent phrase I heard was “if you don’t have time to do it right the first time, what makes you think you’ll have time to do it a second or third time?” I greatly appreciate that the teams I work for here at MicroAge appreciate quality and detail, and that level of support takes time.

Beatrice:

I enjoy work that requires accuracy, structure, and problem-solving, and payroll aligns perfectly with those strengths. I’m motivated by supporting employees; ensuring they’re paid correctly and on time is meaningful and impactful.

Thomas:

When I was in the process of applying for the role I’m in now, I noticed on MicroAge’s website and social media. There were a lot of pictures of associates coming together for volunteering opportunities and other company-wide cultural events. I could tell that they were serious about fostering a sense of connection in their workforce, and this spoke to me because many of the other companies I have worked at tend to focus only on the “work” itself and not the social bonds that are inherent to good work in the first place. I volunteered to help host these StayApartTogether quiz breaks we run company-wide, and from there, I have also organized Family Feud games within our Sales Ops Team. It’s great to be able to contribute to the company culture.

What is one accomplishment or milestone in your role that you’re especially proud of?

Jan:

I love processes and the ability to handle volumes of information. Processes bring accuracy and consistency, which makes me reliable and fosters trust with those I serve. This is really geeky, but few things float my boat as much as a good task or spreadsheet process.

Beatrice:

Managing complex payroll and commission scenarios accurately while maintaining clear communication throughout the process. Consistently meeting tight deadlines while handling high-volume, detail-heavy work with accuracy. I have been with MicroAge for nearly 14 years. I was previously laid off in 2001 during bankruptcy, but I’m grateful to be back and part of the team again.

Thomas:

I won a spot on our Circle of Excellence trip to Oahu this year! I’m extremely grateful that my hard work in Sales Ops is appreciated by my sales reps, and even more thankful that the executives recognize the value I add to the company in my support role.
