Meet Loretta Yu, MicroAge’s Q2 Associate of the Quarter

Loretta Yu, Microage, Marketing Specialist

Every quarter, MicroAge recognizes an associate for their commitment to supporting our clients and team members and for living our values every day.

Meet Loretta Yu, our Associate of the Quarter for Q2 and MicroAge’s Marketing Specialist. Loretta has been an unstoppable creative force at MicroAge for five years. She’s known for being able to handle an endless list of marketing initiatives and for her ability to enlist her teammates to execute them all flawlessly.

After changes on the marketing team last February, Loretta stepped up to take on additional responsibilities and keep creative and event initiatives moving forward and executed on time. She was also recognized for the excellence she brings to her design projects and to managing events for MicroAge clients and associates.

1. What brought you to MicroAge/why did you want to work here?

I was about to graduate and didn’t anticipate how hard it would be to find a job with the other 15,000 students scurrying about like me. I remember pulling all nighters mass applying for any marketing/creative job that interested me. MicroAge happened to be one of them.

2. Tell us about what you do every day in your role:

I spend half my time planning and executing rewarding events for our clients and associates, and the other half doing mostly graphic design work and any other creative projects.

3. What do you love about working at MicroAge?

My first role enabled me to participate in all different areas of the office so I was able to discover what I truly excelled in (events and design) and what I want to avoid the rest of my life (invoicing and numbers in general). That’s what helped shape the position I’m in today.

4. We know every team member makes more possible. How are you making a difference?

I like to think that bringing a creative aspect to things can help break up the monotony and bring some fun and positive aesthetic vibes. Technology can be a little tedious and hard to keep up with because it transforms at such a rapidly complex pace.

5. Which of our MicroAge values resonate with you most and why? (Add value to everything we do  •  Respect our relationships  •  Act with integrity • Make things happen  •  Do it right the first time •  Have fun!)

A mix between ‘Make Things Happen’ and ‘Have Fun.’ I’m a firm believer in not beating around the bush and getting things done—so we can spend more time enjoying ourselves rather than prolonging the inevitable or stressing out.

6. What is your best MicroAge memory?

Planning and executing the Roger Rouse Memorial Golf Tournament. It felt like the longest 5 months of my life—planning such a huge event from start to finish—and for the first time ever. It was daunting and exhausting whilst trying to juggle my normal responsibilities, but I don’t think I’ve ever been that challenged on the job nor learned as much.

It really solidified my interest in event planning and graphic design. Knowing that in the end we raised so much money for the V Foundation while honoring our late CFO was worth its weight in gold.

7. Who inspires you and why?

My sister, Serena, she always reminds me that it’s not how hard you work that matters, but how efficient you are.

8. What do you enjoy doing most outside of the office?

I like eating out with friends and family. A lot. I am a detriment and poor example to our company’s FitTogether initiative.

9. What’s the best advice you’ve been given in your career?

If you’re confident in your skills, have faith that they will shine through.
